I got this camcorder so my husband would have something else to use instead of his camera phone for short little videos. And as stated in other reviews, the battery when charged only has like 60 minutes on it so a bigger battery is definately a must and than you would have a backup for those special moments when you realize your battery is dead. I did buy the memorex dvd's and everytime you turn the camcorder on it tells you you should be using sony products.
When my 19 month old is doing something we don't want to miss you can very easily grab this and start filming immediately. It is not uncommon for people to purchase other brand items if they are a little more reasonable in price. I love how small it is and that it is so easy to use.
This is annoying. I have not tried downloading any photos/videos to the computer. I am using the dvd-r for most of the video because there is no having to download it's right on the disk and I can pop it into my dvd player.
I also found that alot of the prices on amazon for batteries, dvds, memorysticks are much more reasonable that the stores in my area. All in all a great product that I have been recommending to my friends and family.
I'm proud of my purchase. I used it during my vacation and am so happy with the video quality. Great camcorder for the price. It's easy to learn and use. The only thing it doesn't have is the remote control; They said it's included but it's not. I would definitely recommend it to family and friends.
I purchased this camcorder for a vacation I just returned from. I had purchased 20 Memorex miniDVD+RW hoping/thinking they would work (via some other reviews on here), but they didn't--after formatting, "unsupported format" and no go. So I ran out to Target and bought 5 of the Sony mini's which worked, of course flawlessly--but at 3 times the cost.We just watched some playback of video and are floored by the absolutely perfect color of the outdoor shots. The learning curve is quick, very simple to use. In any case, if you are like me a month ago and searching for a camcorder to buy, I say buy this one. Two options of recording video, either on a memory card, or via mini-DVD. This is a GREAT camcorder. If there is a way to make them work, I'd love for someone to tell me how.
The option of being able to pop out the mini-dvd and putting it into any DVD player is awesome. No computer necessary. I'm really quite stunned at the quality. I would have been pleased at twice the price I paid.
Over all I am satisfied with the camera. I film my sons hockey games from the stands, when zoomed out you cant read the players names on the jerseys.
The hybrid feature is nice and I tend to store directly to memory stick and keep a few disks with me for over flow. I have used the Sony DVD610 for several weeks.
The picture could be better. The 4 gig pro-duo memory stick holds about an hours worth of video.
The 40x zoom is nice but is difficult to hold steady shots when fully zoomed. I probably should have gone with the DVD710 model to get the more clear picture.
It functions well with no odd problems.
One thing I would suggest is that You get a Memory Stick along with the extra DVDs and don't forget the Battery charger and a Carrying case. I Bought this Camcorder for My Girlfrend's Daughter. They live in the Philippines and are very happy to have this Camcorder. It is really to bad You are not told up front everything that is needed for this Camcorder, but then they may scare a lot of buyers off. I think this is a Good little Camcorder.
